SAAFER is an Atlanta-based non-profit working to educate people about alternative fuels. Their primary purpose is to support scientific research by offering grants paid for through the sale of decals and assorted branded merchandise. After interviewing a number of local agencies, SAAFER chose 16toads to design and develop their web site. They had a set budget and a number of requirements that dictated our development options. The first thing we did was clean up their pre-designed logo. Then we designed and developed their site using the popular "open-source" content management system Drupal, as the underlying technology platform. The result: A clean, easy-to-navigate web site that SAAFER has the ability to modify virtually every aspect of through a robust web-based control panel. Step two in the development process was creating their shopping cart. The major consideration was finding a solution that allowed SAAFER to integrate seamlessly with QuickBooks. After considering a custom build versus "open-source" carts (with untested plug-in modules), we decided to use a web-based 3rd party solution to handle the job. ProStores is one of a handful of shopping cart solutions that offers a simple, proven method of integrating their cart with QuickBooks accounting software. We heavily modified a ProStore stock SSL template to match the look and feel of the SAAFER web site. This project presented a number of challenges; however, we were able to make the most out of open-source platforms to meet the project requirements and stay within budget ... And, in doing so, turned over a successful project to a happy client.
